AUBEELUCK VIPINE

President

Vipine joined the YQA Team in 2015 as a member. Since then, his journey allowed him to grow from being an Auditor at the organisation to then serve as Vice-Secretary, Secretary, Vice-President and since 2021 as President.

Learning Science through academic education, business through career profession and sociology through voluntary social work allowed him to become quite versatile in his tasks at the YQA.

He is also pursuing his Master degrees in Business Administration. Initially of jolly but introverted nature, Vipine has discovered new grounds of his personality since joining the YQA.

POTIÉ INGRID EMMELINE

Vice President

Emmeline joined YQA in 2017 after completing her Bachelor’s Honours Degree in Sociology. She has also a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Initially, she served as a volunteer within the organization, and then joined the team as an Executive member in 2019. She was elected Vice Secretary in 2020 and is now Vice President of the organization for the year 2021.

She is a former educator and is currently working at the National Human Rights Commission.

Emmeline is immensely driven by growth, consistency and leadership. She leads through example and is a great believer in connecting people through ecological and humanitarian activities. Emmeline has been volunteering for a number of causes including education, environment, mental health, and human rights issues. In 2020, she created the social media platform, Women Who Hike – Mauritius, to connect and empower all women by exploring the outdoors.

POTIÉ INGRID EMMELINE

Vice President

DOORJEAN SAARVESH

Secretary

Saarvesh Doorjean (Mim) is a Health Care Assistant in level 2, and he was Diplomate in 2018 at the Quatre Bornes Professional Training Centre under the CITY & Guilds license.

He joined the YQA in 2015 as an active member and also as a Peer Educator in the HIV Programme under the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).

Previously, he was a Vice-Treasurer in 2018 and Treasurer in 2019. Mim was elected as Secretary at the YQA since March 2020.

DOORJEAN SAARVESH

Secretary

Dinesh is currently working as a public relation executive and has more than 7 years of experience in customer service, marketing & management.

He has always wanted to join an NGO and help those in need. He thinks of bringing his social media, marketing & public relations experience to Young Queer Alliance.

Dinesh is passionate about social media, human rights, equality in the society for all.

GROOCHURN NITISH

Vice Secretary

 

Dinesh is currently working as a public relation executive and has more than 7 years of experience in customer service, marketing & management.

He has always wanted to join an NGO and help those in need. He thinks of bringing his social media, marketing & public relations experience to Young Queer Alliance.

Dinesh is passionate about social media, human rights, equality in the society for all.

LASAVANNE JÜRGEN SOOCRAMANIEN

Treasurer

Jürgen is a gender studies graduate from the University of Mauritius as well as a civic leadership graduate from the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Centre in Southern Africa. He is enrolled for a master’s in public policy and administration at the University of Mauritius.

Previously, Jürgen served as Secretary, Treasurer, and President at the Young Queer Alliance and since January 2021, he is serving again as Treasurer of the organisation.

Jürgen is a fervent human rights defender who has a strong interest in LGBTQIA issues, women’s rights movements, ethnic minorities, and mental health issues. He is currently a member of the African Queer Youth Initiative (AQYI). Within the AQYI, Jürgen also forms part of the Human Rights Taskforce where he is occupying the role of co-chair.

Besides, He is passionate about intersectionality, queer culture and discovering new horizons. Jürgen loves pop music, flowery shirts, hiking, theatre, public speaking, diversity and has a strong belief in satyagraha (Philosophy of non-violent resistance).

CASTELLANO FABRIYONA

Executive Member

Fabriyona has been newly elected as Executive member on the board of YQA. Representing the Trans people, she wishes to contribute more of her knowledge and experience to bring a change in society.

She is currently working at PILS, an organisation working in the fight against HIV/AIDS. As Peer Educator 3 years now, her duties and responsibilities are to deliver HIV, HCV, SHYP prevention packages to the LGBTQIA+ Community, be an information provider, distribution of condoms and lubricant and acts as a referral for HIV, HCV and SHYP tests. Moreover, she does the follow up of doctor’s appointments and accompanies beneficiaries to any medical visit in any medical settings.

She helps other partner NGOs with regards to the Global Fund project.

Fabriyona is also passionate about Art, makeup, and fashion. She is also a food lover and likes watching reality shows.

Auditor

Shirish works as an Educator in a secondary school. He has completed his Master degree from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India. He is currently teaching Marathi and also working as a freelance radio jockey.

Shirish has been volunteering in few activities organised by the Young Queer Alliance. He has also written a few short stories and plays to raise LGBTQ awareness.

Shirish loves Indian music, travelling, theatre, photography, cooking and travelling.

Auditor 

Divek Daby has been working in the Tourism Industry since he was 18 years old. As a seasoned professional with more than 2 years of experience in hospitality customer service, he is currently occupying the position of Guest Relation Officer at Heritage Resorts and is very passionate about his work. He has also completed courses of Supervisory Level at Ecole Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval (MITD).

DABY DIVEK

Auditor

KANHIYA LAKSHITA

Manager and Advocate

Lakshita is a 22-year-old woman who advocates for the meaningful participation of youth and minority groups in decision-making processes at all levels. Lakshita is the founder of the UoM Students’ Human Rights Society. She speaks on issues like domestic violence, adoption, women’s human rights, particularly in sexual rights and reproductive rights, gender equality, the prevention of torture and post-conflict accountability.

She holds a Degree of Bachelor of Arts of the University of Mauritius in Politics, Human Rights and International Relations.

With training in political science and international human rights law, she has been involved in different youth initiatives such as the National Youth Parliament. Today, as Manager and Advocate at the Young Queer Alliance, she continues her human rights activism.
