FOKEERBUX NAJEEB AHMAD

President & Founder

Najeeb works as Assistant Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Mauritius since December 2019 and holds a Master in Business Administration with specialization in Public Administration (with distinction) and a Bachelor in Engineering (Civil Engineering) with Honours.

Najeeb is the founder and current President of the Young Queer Alliance, a LGBTQ NGO in Mauritius as well as a Board Member of Association VISA-G, a trans-led organisation in Mauritius. He also serves as a Board of Directors at MPact – Global Action for Gay Men’s Health and Rights (formerly MSMGF) and since 2019, he is a member of the Community, Rights and Gender Advisory Group if the Global Fund against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

LASAVANNE JÜRGEN SOOCRAMANIEN

Secretary

Jürgen is a gender studies graduate from the University of Mauritius as well as a civic leadership graduate from the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Centre in Southern Africa. He is enrolled for a master’s in public policy and administration at the University of Mauritius.

Previously, Jürgen served as Secretary, Treasurer, and President at the Young Queer Alliance and since Febraury 2022, he is serving again as Secretary of the organisation.

Jürgen is a fervent human rights defender who has a strong interest in LGBTQIA issues, women’s rights movements, ethnic minorities, and mental health issues. He is currently a board member of the African Queer Youth Initiative (AQYI). Within the AQYI, Jürgen also forms part of the Human Rights Taskforce where he is occupying the role of co-chair.

Besides, He is passionate about intersectionality, queer culture and discovering new horizons. Jürgen loves pop music, flowery shirts, hiking, theatre, public speaking, diversity and has a strong belief in satyagraha (Philosophy of non-violent resistance).

AUBEELUCK VIPINE

Treasurer

Vipine joined the YQA Team in 2015 as a member. Since then, his journey allowed him to grow from being an Auditor at the organisation to then serve as Vice-Secretary, Secretary, Vice-President, President and since 2022 as Treasurer.

Learning Science through academic education, business through career profession and sociology through voluntary social work allowed him to become quite versatile in his tasks at the YQA.

He has completed his Master degrees in Business Administration and works at the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Initially of jolly but introverted nature, Vipine has discovered new grounds of his personality since joining the YQA.

AUBEELUCK VIPINE

Treasurer

Vipine joined the YQA Team in 2015 as a member. Since then, his journey allowed him to grow from being an Auditor at the organisation to then serve as Vice-Secretary, Secretary, Vice-President, President and since 2022 as Treasurer.

LUGUN DEEKSHA

Project Officer

Deeksha is the Project Officer at the Young Queer Alliance since May 2021 and is responsible to supervise and manage HIV and healthcare related projects. Her main duty is to implement the HIV prevention programme for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (LGBTQ) Mauritians funded by the National Social Inclusion Foundation.

Deeksha has an undergraduate degree in Social Work Practice from the University of Mauritius which has provided her with a strong footing for fieldwork. As a former Project assistant at the University of Mauritius, she has also acquired the knowledge and skills as a researcher.

Deeksha is passionate about the rights of children, women and vulnerable communities. In her free-time, Deeksha volunteers in other NGOs.

MARIETTE JORDY

Administrative and Support Staff

Jordy is part of the new staff crew at Young Queer Alliance, shouldering the role of Administrative and Support Staff. He has always been an advocate of the LGBTQIA+ and for Mental Health. His major wish would be to bring back humanity into this world.

This Human Resource Management graduate is currently furthering his academic journey with a Master’s course in Mental Health. Jordy aims at using the knowledge and skills he has acquired to help demystify and encourage people to take care of themselves.
