INTERNATIONAL STAND UP TO BULLYING DAY

24th Feb 2020

International STAND UP to Bullying Day is an event in which participants sign and wear pink to take a visible, public stance against bullying.

The Young Queer Alliance encourages people to show their support through smallest possible actions by standing up, voicing out to show their support to victims of bullying; especially young people and LGBT in Mauritius.

Some figures:

  • 15% of Mauritian youngsters report being victims of bullying and a further 14.5% report being victims of cyber-bullying
  • 83% of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) report being victims of direct or indirect harassment and violence at workplace
  • 77% of LGBT report being victims of homophobia and transphobia on the streets

Bullying leads to young people and LGBT youngsters to feel unsafe – including in schools – and it also occurs in Mauritius. Despite bullying affects young people in their proper and holistic development at school, educational authorities do little if nothing to create safe and inclusive environment for all.

Join the Young Queer Alliance by sensitising your peers about bullying on social media. Show your support: Dare it? Wear #pink!
