In the context of Pride Month 2021, a “Groupe De Parole” was organised by the Young Queer Alliance on Saturday, 26 June 2021. The YQA welcomed a group of young LGBT people who shared their life experiences in a post-lockdown situation.
Noteworthy to point out that the objective of this “Groupe De Parole” was to provide a platform for the participants to connect with each other and share their experiences. Moreover, various activities were organised on that day such as passing the pillow, card games, and letter to a friend among others. The YQA acted as a facilitator and the activities promoted the “feel good thoughts”. The games also served to breaking the ice among the young people.
“No pride for some of us without the liberation of all of us” -Marsha P. Johnson
During the Pride month, let’s remember queer activists like Marsha P.Johnson who have paved the way not only for the trans community but for the whole community Her dedication and her work has led to us receiving more acceptance globally and we have to keep remembering her.
– Fabien, a proud member of the community.
As a matter of fact, the overwhelming support and positivity from the participants at the end of the session showed that highlighting and nurturing the good aspects of lived experiences of LGBT people will help them in overcoming the life challenges instead of stressing over the negative lived experiences of LGBTQ people. Quoting George Takei; “We should indeed keep calm in the face of difference, and live our lives in a state of inclusion and wonder at the diversity of humanity.”
