The YQA is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates who wish to be considered as full-time Social Worker (Trans Empowerment) for the organisation starting June 2024.
A. Candidates should:
- be passionate about improving the health and well-being of trans and gender-diverse people and communities;
- have a strong interest in LGBTQIA+ issues, gender, human rights and HIV/AIDS;
- have a network working with trans and gender-diverse communities;
- have good communication and interpersonal skills; and
- be computer literate.
B. Although not required, it would be an advantage if Candidates possess:
- a diploma in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Sociology, Health Care or equivalent/any other qualification acceptable to the organisation; and
- experience working in community empowerment activities.
The onus to demonstrate the above requirements rests on the candidates.
DUTIES
The incumbent will, inter-alia, be required to:
- Plan, coordinate, manage and implement safe spaces with trans persons and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
- Plan and implement trans empowerment activities and mobilise trans communities accordingly.
- Liaise with resource persons/organisations to provide quality empowerment to trans communities.
- Identify LGBTQIA+-friendly organisations and companies in Mauritius and network with them to promote a safe and inclusive Mauritius.
- Provide individual and/or group counselling as and when required.
- Maintain accurate records and report on beneficiaries’ status.
- Act as a key worker and cooperate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Creating digital content and maintaining community linkages through social media.
- Fully participate in meetings and workshops organised by partner organisations and different Ministries/Departments to promote trans visibility, inclusion and empowerment.
- Provide peer support to trans people.
- Act as facilitator/trainer occasionally to share information with beneficiaries and trans communities.
The Social Worker (Trans Empowerment) shall receive a basic salary of MUR 20,000 per month and will additionally be entitled to a transport and phone allowances while performing their duties.
