The “other” gender across history and cultures
In memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998, Gwendolyn Ann Smith started the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), that today, it became and international day, observed in over 185 cities in over 20 countries around the world. The day emphasises on the anti-transgender bullying, harassment, discrimination, violence towards transgender people. It is a living fact that most transgender people are considered as urchins of society, travesties to norms, shunned by their ilk and families, discriminated to obtain work, have non-caring health systems, and they are not easily included in spheres of society.

L’UN est âgé de 25 ans et l’autre de 21 ans. Le premier travaille déjà alors que le dernier complète ses études supérieures. Ces deux jeunes hommes, éperdument amoureux, veulent vivre ensemble. Mais avant, ils désirent sceller leur union par des fiançailles et un mariage civil. Ils essuient un refus du bureau de l’état civil. Raison pour laquelle ce couple de gays a décidé de porter plainte devant l’Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) le 27 juillet.

10th Rainbow Parade: I LOVE
We are the 6th June 2015. The Plaza and Rose Hill is preparing itself for the celebration of diversity and equality. The theme: I Love; that to love is the right for all; that love is universal. The two major Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans (LGBT) organisations – Collectif Arc-en-Ciel and the Young Queer Alliance have collaborated to organise the 10th Rainbow Parade – and to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia 2015.

Une campagne pour les LGBT – du jamais vu à Maurice – qui n’a pas manqué d’attirer les regards, les félicitations et joies des uns et des autres, enfin une visibilité en termes d’actions sans compter la Marche des Fiertés qui se déciment d’année en année ou les soirées LGBT-friendly qui ne font plus grand monde ces derniers temps..

Les droits des homosexuels dans les pays africain. Tel était le thème principal d’une conférence qui a eu lieu du 10 au 12 novembre à Durban, en Afrique du sud. Najeeb Fokeerbux, de l’association Young Queer Alliance, était présent et nous parle de cette rencontre.
