Vacancy – Project Officer
Young Queer Alliance (YQA) a non-profit NGO for youth empowerment based on sexual orientation and gender identity is looking for a motivated, passionate and dynamic person for managing its projects. The Project Officer will manage the YQA’s projects and its peer educators network.
Pride 2018 – The Birth of Hope or The Death of Pride?
Even if the day ended without any bloodshed, Pride 2018 has been known as one of the darkest events in the history of LGBTQ community in Mauritius. Pride in Mauritius will never be the same again. Once the 400 anti-LGBTQ people having stopped the March, on the basis of constitutional provisions, we know they will be there for years to come to stand as a wall to human rights, dignity and freedoms. Is it the death of Pride? Despite these, amidst the death threats that followed Saturday, 2nd June 2018 to activists, there is still a vibrant rainbow of hope arcing the skies. The LGBTQ community received lots of support from Mauritians through social media.
Communiqué Pride 2018: End the Homophobia and Islamophobia
Blasphemy, inciting towards racial hatred – especially Islamophobia, violation of the citizenship rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Mauritians, homophobia, sharing hate instead of love, over the past days we have witnessed our flaws as humans in not being able to understand and accept another fellow human and their diverse queer and religious identities; despite we asking for the acceptance of our LGBTQ communities in Rainbow Mauritius.
International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2018
No battle can be won in isolation. As we commemorate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on this 17th May 2018, we all need to keep strengthening alliances, especially when we need to ensure safety, fight violence, lobby for legal change, and/or campaign to change hearts and minds.

My experience as a Human Right Defender at the United Nation Human Rights Committee
“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” (Article 1 – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights) a magnificent quote that can be understood as a justification for the existence of human rights by the fact that individuals are entitled to freedom and equality in dignity and rights. Yet, this testament of 1948 does not in itself prevent any form of deprivation human rights, violations of which have been lingering often too much for decades now!
Human Rights Day: #StandUp4HumanRights
The world celebrates the Human Rights Day in commemoration and remembrance of the vibrant understanding on what human rights should be as enshrined by The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on the 10th December 1948. Today also kick-starts a yearlong campaign on the importance of Human Rights marking the 70th Anniversary of the UDHR that will be celebrated on the 10th December 2018.
The United Nations Human Rights Committee: Concluding observations on the fifth periodic report of Mauritius
The Young Queer Alliance, with the support of ILGA attended the 121st session review of the Human Rights Committee for Mauritius and made a case for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in Mauritius. The United Nations Human Rights Committee issued strong and positive recommendations for LGBT Mauritians.
