Communiqué on UN Resolution on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
The Young Queer Alliance (YQA) enthusiastically welcomes the adoption by the United Nation Human Rights Council (25 in favour, 14 against and 7 abstentions) of the Resolution on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SO & GI) condemning discrimination and violence perpetuated against people based on their SO & GI.

PROTECTION FROM HOMOPHOBIA FOR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: The next issue on Mauritius LGBTQI Agenda ?
The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia in 2014 focuses on “Freedom of Expression”. There is no denying to the lack of involvement of LGBTQI people to fight for their own rights leading to freedoms ; often creating deadlocks for legislators to move forward in promoting their “Freedom of Expression”.
Restructuring the LGBT agenda: A strategic approach
LGBT rights are a human right struggle, a political struggle, NGO’s (CAEC, PILS, Amnesty Mauritius…) struggle, and a citizen struggle. It is important to bear in mind that various actors are involved in the process, and not just LGBT organisations. Planning the agenda and seeking support from numerous other groups will help reach goals easily, for LGBT fight is a PROGRESSIVE approach; especially in developing and African Countries.

Plus de voile ; plus de masque ! Sourire au visage, dans une ambiance festive… c’était un peu ça la nouveauté … Comme pour affirmer notre identité, pour assumer ce que nous sommes, pour dire aux gens : reconnaissez le visage de votre enfant, de vos frères et sœurs, de votre ami, de vos collègues.
Aux LGBT: « Rendez vous VISIBLE! »
Dire que : « suis gay et trankil dans mon coin » ne rendra pas la vie plus facile aux LGBT. Rendez vous visibles ; rendons nous visibles !
Homosexuality: Centralising the debate
Bringing the issue of homosexuality at parliamentary level has indeed helped in launching a pronounced debate on this topic. Agreed that we need one; but we do not need just any debate. We are to be able to give an intellectual and humanitarian dimension to this issue. The reason why we ought to discuss is because the debate in itself is a means to clarify misunderstandings about homosexuality, to reach a consensus on this issue and to identify the institutions and structures to be set-up.

Quid de cette ouverture d’esprit que nous revendiquons ? Majoritairement rien ! Et que foutons nous de cette idéologie de la liberté d’expression par laquelle nous nous adhérons ? On comprend alors c’est quoi la liberté : d’être impartial, d’être juste, d’être tolérant, de savoir se priver de ses libertés et de respecter le choix des autres.
