As such, the symbolism of Pride remains the outward manifestation of this crossroad between Queer people and society. True, Pride was not always Pride as we know it today. History as told and retold, transfixed and mutating, stands as the collective memory of the fight for equality.

En creusant sous ces identités visibles et «normales», nous arrivons à apercevoir, avec nos lunettes aux verres imbibés des préjugés, une identité sexuelle hors norme – homosexuel, lesbienne, bisexuel ou transgenre. Et aussitôt, le Mauricien n’est plus Mauricien, le musulman devient un «harami» (un pécheur), le fils se voit déshérité et l’enfant prodigue ne l’est plus. Comment et pourquoi tant d’hostilité envers des gens à la sexualité différente ?
Briser mon silence pour mieux vivre ma vie
Malgré tout ce que j’endurais, je n’ai jamais baissé les bras et j’ai continué de me battre et d’avancer en espérant que les choses allaient s’arranger avec le temps. La seule solution pour m’en sortir c’était d’affronter mes bourreaux et de m’élever contre l’oppression qu’ils me faisaient subir.
